Nearly every producer who participated in ADM re:generations™ in 2023 plans to re-enroll this year, and nearly nine out of ten would recommend the program to a friend or fellow producer.

The findings come from responses to a survey of 2023 ADM re:generations participants conducted prior to the 2024 launch of the popular Climate-Smart program. The 2024 ADM re:generations enrollment window opened on June 24.

A total of 631 producers responded to the survey, representing roughly 17 percent of all producers enrolled in the program in 2023. For the majority of respondents, 56 percent, 2023 was their first year enrolled in the program.

Easy enrollment, competitive pricing

Ninety-six percent of respondents indicated they plan on participating in ADM re:generations again in 2024, with 87 percent saying they are likely to recommend the program to a friend or fellow producer.

“These survey results confirm what we’ve been hearing anecdotally from our customers and local reps: ADM re:generations works,” says ADM Climate-Smart Origination Manager Jenny Poling.

When asked to provide reasons why they chose to enroll in ADM re:generations in the first place, the one cited by most producers, 60 percent, was the program’s easy enrollment.

“Excellent program!” said one respondent.

“The people assisting with data collection and agronomic help are excellent!”

Simple rewards for regenerative practices

Entering field-level data took less than an hour for 88 percent of respondents, with 38 percent indicating the process took less than 30 minutes.

Several respondents also praised ADM re:generations data collection partner FBN as being “very professional and courteous” throughout the data collection process.

“Working with the FBN rep was awesome, she was very helpful,” said another respondent.

Other factors for participating in ADM re:generations mentioned most often included competitive pay rates, minimal paperwork, and the one-year commitment.

“Re:generations was always meant to be simple and easy for producers so they could benefit from all the hard work they do every day in the field and get rewarded for incorporating regenerative practices into their operations,” says Poling.

5 million regenerative acres by 2025

The survey also revealed that 74 percent of respondents have planted cover crops for two or more years with most (65 percent) saying they do so to improve soil health.

About 1 in 5 producers say they have been able to reduce the amount of fertilizer they use since planting cover crops. However, the majority of respondents (57 percent) have not yet looked closely at ways to improve fertilizer efficiency since joining the program.

“While we are extremely proud of the progress we’ve made so far, that doesn’t mean we can’t do more to help producers uncover more ways to better manage their inputs and improve efficiency,” says Poling.

ADM has ambitious goals for expanding its global regenerative agriculture program beyond the more than 2.8 million acres enrolled in 2023. The aim is to enroll 3.5 million regenerative acres in 2024 and is increasing its 2025 goal from 4 million to 5 million acres globally.

“We know that farmers are stewards of the land, and we offer an array of programs that meet their varied needs and empower each of them in the ways that work best for their individual situations,” says Greg Morris, president of ADM’s Ag Services and Oilseeds business.
